Two different kinds of "growing"
The confusion around future jobs usually comes from mixing up percentage growth with headcount growth, and they tell very different stories.
By percentage, the WEF names big data specialists, fintech engineers, and AI and machine learning specialists as the fastest-growing roles worldwide through 2030, according to its Future of Jobs Report 2025. Software and application developers and security management specialists round out the top tier. These are real growth rates, but they start from a small base. A role can double in size and still add fewer total jobs than a much larger occupation growing more slowly.

Three forces explain almost everything on both lists.
First, demographics. An aging population in the U.S. and most developed economies means healthcare and personal care demand keeps climbing regardless of what AI can or can't do. This is baked into population data, not sentiment.
Second, the energy transition. Wind and solar installation and maintenance didn't exist as major job categories twenty years ago. They now sit at the top of BLS's percentage-growth list because the physical infrastructure is being built out in real time, and someone has to install and service it.
Third, AI itself, but not in the way most people assume.
